Problem started around 2 years ago. Starter motor works, but the engine doesn't kicks in. Then wait around minute and then it starts. It happens approximately once-twice a week. I know that the car will start, but it's annoying me. Went to dealer, told problem, of course answer was - when you won't be able to start the car - we will fix it.
Easy check is charge the battery, connect one jump lead to the engine and the other end to a good earth on the chassis. Try and start the car if it starts your earthing strap is broken buy a new one and fit it anywhere suitable. Hope this helps it happened to me and a mechanic told me the quick way to check it.

Direct injection engines should start immediately in UK ambient temperatures. Although the glow plugs do provide a few seconds heating before starting they are not essential for a start, their main purpose in a DI engine is post start heating for emission control, although the light is out the plugs are still on for quite a few seconds.
